Community & Government Relations BureauSteve2024-08-14T06:54:57-08:00
Created in 2015, then re-organized in 2023, the Community & Government Relations Bureau (CGR) brings all of the office’s community related efforts under one umbrella with the goal of maximizing our reach, increasing communication and making a positive impact across all the communities we serve.
This bureau is responsible for the Community Outreach & Media Relations Unit (CMR) which is for creating, expanding, and facilitating a number of adult and youth education and prevention programs. The unit facilitates communication with the community as well as traditional news media using several tools including the office video newsletter – Justice Journal, the neighborhood app “Nextdoor” and other social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and Justice Journal Podcasts.
CGR also includes the nationally recognized Community Prosecution Unit (CPU). There are prosecutors working in neighborhoods throughout the county and City of Sacramento and Rancho Cordova. Community prosecutors create partnerships with citizens, law enforcement, community groups and businesses to proactively address quality of life issues including blight, prostitution, graffiti, and homelessness (see CPU brochure).
Government Relations is also under the CGR Bureau. Government Relations focuses on researching legislative bills that affect the criminal justice system. Our focus is to advocate for policies that protect the public and advance the safety of all our communities.
In addition to the Community Outreach & Media Relations Unit, the Community Prosecution Unit, and Government Relations, the CGR Bureau also includes the juvenile hall division as well as the Consumer & Environmental Protection Unit.
