Defendant Convicted of Child Sexual Assault, Child Pornography Charges

DATE: February 3, 2023

CASE: Marc Mendoza (Case #20FE005668)

PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Scott Schweibish, Adult Sexual Assault Prosecution Unit

Marc Mendoza was convicted by a jury of 14 counts of child sexual assault and two counts of child pornography charges.

Mendoza was a close family friend of the victim. He began touching the victim inappropriately when the victim was approximately 13 years old.  During one assault, Mendoza forcefully pinned the victim down and sexually assaulted her. Mendoza forced the victim to take nude selfies on her phone and then provide the phone to him to view.  The victim reported that Mendoza sexually assaulted her 70-80 times over the course of one year. She disclosed some of the abuse to others close to her, but it was not reported to law enforcement at that time. In March 2020, the victim called a friend crying and told her about the sexual abuse. The friend’s mother overheard the conversation and after speaking to the victim, she called 911 to report the abuse.

Mendoza faces a maximum sentence of 126 years and 8 months in state prison.  Sentencing is set for March 3, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in Department 42 before the Honorable Allen Sumner.
