On January 17, 2025, the Honorable James Arguelles sentenced Hong Pham to 25 years to life in prison.  On November 21, 2024, a jury convicted Pham of first-degree murder.

On September 26, 2016, Hong Pham strangled her adult daughter, Oanh Hoang, to death with a shoestring. She then placed the victim in the back of her car, drove to a parking lot and parked the car.  Pham exited the car and ran into traffic on Martin Luther King Blvd. She suffered traumatic brain injury, but she survived. Three days later, Pham’s car was located with the victim’s body in the back seat.  A suicide/confession letter from Pham was later found at her home.

Pham pled not guilty by reason of Insanity. Pham was convicted of first-degree murder and was found to be sane.
