CASE: Michael Huey (Case #21FE018089)

PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Dinah Mielke, Special Assault & Child Abuse Unit

On January 24, 2025, the Honorable Ernest Sawtelle sentenced Michael Huey to 96 years in prison.  On December 20, 2024, a jury convicted Huey of 16 counts of child molestation with force, violence, duress. The jury also found true aggravating factors that the victims were vulnerable; that Huey took advantage of a position of trust; the crimes involved great violence, great bodily harm, threats of great bodily harm or other acts disclosing a high degree of cruelty, viciousness or callousness; and the manner in which the crimes were carried out indicates planning, sophistication or professionalism.

From 1995 to 2008,  Huey used his position of trust, his size and his strength to overpower and molest two minors.  For one of the victims, Huey used mental and emotional manipulation by threatening physical violence against their family and instilling a fear of separation from other loved ones if they told anyone.  During the investigation, Huey was found to be in possession of multiple images of child sexual abuse material on a tablet.

Under current California law, Huey (age 54) will become eligible for release at an Elder Parole hearing once he reaches the age of 50 and only serves 20 years of his 96-year sentence.  With his in-custody credits, that will be in approximately 17 years.
