Defendant Sentenced for Sexually Assaulting, Raping a Minor
DATE: April 8, 2024
CASE: Kemoni Tobin (Case #22FE011091)
PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Courtney Martin, Human Trafficking Unit
On April 5, 2024, the Honorable Delbert Oros sentenced Kemoni Tobin to 21 years in state prison and lifetime sex offender registration. On January 31, 2024, a jury convicted Tobin of sexually assaulting a victim 14 years old or older, forcible rape of a minor 14 years old or older and unlawful sexual intercourse with a victim more than three years younger.
On November 5, 2021, the 15-year-old victim agreed to meet and socialize with another teenager. Twenty-year-old Kemoni Tobin was also there. The three went to the other teenager’s apartment, where the victim was left alone with Tobin in the living room. When the victim declined to have sexual relations with Tobin, he sexually assaulted and forcibly raped her. A report was made to law enforcement, and the victim submitted to a sexual assault examination. The examination and subsequent laboratory testing confirmed the presence of Tobin’s DNA.
At the time of the trial on this case, Tobin was serving a 4-year prison sentence for previous pimping and pandering convictions. His 21-year sentence will begin after the completion of that sentence.
