Shauku Daryl Barksdale was convicted by a jury of rape by force.

The victim and her boyfriend were renting a room in a residence where Barksdale and his girlfriend also lived. On February 3, 2019, the victim’s boyfriend left the residence after the two argued. Barksdale also left with his girlfriend, who is confined to a wheelchair.  He returned to the residence after leaving his girlfriend in the car.  Barksdale then went to the victim’s room and raped her. Barksdale denied touching the victim, but DNA linked him to the sexual assault.

Barksdale faces a maximum sentence of 16 years and 8 months in prison. Sentencing is set for April 26, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. in Department 12 before the Honorable Maryanne Gilliard.
