Human Trafficking Public Awareness Poster Campaign

District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert stands with district attorneys, law enforcement leaders, city officials and community organizations across California in taking proactive measures to combat human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of children.

Under Senate Bill 1193, the state of California mandates that businesses and organizations fitting a certain criteria display a readily visible poster to raise awareness about victims of human trafficking with resource information, including hotline numbers to seek help or report unlawful activity.

The public awareness and poster campaign ensures select businesses display resource information for victims themselves to seek help as well as help employees and the public identify and rescue victims.

A letter signed by then District Attorney Jan Scully and Sheriff Scott Jones was sent to Sacramento County businesses and organizations that fall under the new law to advise them of their responsibility to display a trafficking poster on their premises. A free poster will also be provided to the businesses that effectively presents the information for the intended target audience and meets all of the requirements of the law.

This locally designed 11″ x 14″ downloadable poster is being provided for your convenience. It includes all three posting languages condensed into one easy to use notice and meets all other requirements of the law.

REQUIRED: Senate Bill 1193 Poster (PDF or JPG): Printer settings will need to be adjusted for 11″ x 14″ paper size. If your printer does not provide an 11″ x 14″ paper size, it can be printed on 11″ x 17″ (standard ledger) size paper.

OPTIONAL: In addition to displaying the above mandated 11″x14″ poster, business and establishments may also display a non-mandated 8 1/2″x11″ poster with an alternative language.

Below are the types of business and establishments mandated to display a poster that complies with the requirements. Posters must be in a conspicuous place near the public entrance or in another conspicuous location in clear view of the public and employees where similar notices are customarily posted.

  • On-sale general public premises licensees under the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act (Division 9 (commencing with Section 23000) of the Business and Professions Code).

  • Adult or sexually oriented businesses, as defined in subdivision (a) of Section 318.5 of the Penal Code.

  • Primary airports, as defined in Section 47102(16) of Title 49 of the United States Code.

  • Intercity passenger rail or light rail stations.

  • Bus stations.

  • Truck stops. For purposes of this section, “truck stop” means a privately owned and operated facility that provides food, fuel, shower or other sanitary facilities, and lawful overnight truck parking.

  • Emergency rooms within general acute care hospitals.

  • Urgent care centers.

  • Farm labor contractors, as defined in subdivision (b) of Section 1682 of the Labor Code.

  • Privately operated job recruitment centers.

  • Roadside rest areas.

  • Businesses or establishments that offer massage or bodywork services for compensation and are not described in paragraph (1) of subdivision (b) of Section 4612 of the Business and Professions Code.
