On September 30, 2021, Governor Newsom signed into law Assembly Bill 481 (AB 481). AB 481 required the governing body of a law enforcement agency (Board of Supervisors) to approve a military equipment use policy for such equipment to be requested, acquired, or deployed by the agency.

Government Code § 7072 requires law enforcement agencies to submit an Annual Military Equipment Report to their governing body and to hold a community engagement meeting where the general public may discuss and ask questions regarding the annual military equipment report and the Sacramento District Attorney’s funding, acquisition, or use of military equipment.

In compliance with AB 481, this report has been published on the Sacramento County District Attorney’s website. This report will also be publicly available on the Sacramento County District Attorney’s website for as long as the military equipment is available for use.

The Sacramento County District Attorney’s annual military equipment report, military equipment directive, and military equipment inventory can be found here at the bottom of this page.

California Assembly Bill 481 requires law enforcement agencies to obtain approval of the applicable governing body (Board of Supervisors) by adoption of a military equipment use policy prior to taking certain actions relating to the funding, acquisition, or use of military equipment as defined by the legislature.

The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office has established the below links to all the required materials including our policy, annual report, Board of Supervisors approval, and the full text of the bill.

Members of the public can submit a question, concern, or complaint regarding the District Attorney’s Offices’ military equipment. Questions about military equipment can be submitted by emailing daoffice@sacda.org.
