Mail Theft Task Force
Mail theft is a serious, preventable crime and the District Attorney’s Office will not stand by while it continues. The newly formed Sacramento Mail Theft Task Force will increase coordination between our office, law enforcement and the US Postal Inspector to protect our mailboxes from theft, protect our residents from fraud, and protect the integrity of the United States mail system.
The District Attorney’s Office has dedicated a prosecutor to the Task Force to expedite search warrants and allow the pursuit of state charges without meeting the higher federal loss threshold, providing greater flexibility and stronger tools to hold offenders accountable.
With this Task Force, we reaffirm our commitment to protect our residents and end mail theft in our county.
If you see a mail thief at work, or if you believe your mail was stolen, call police immediately, then call Postal Inspectors at 1-877-876-2455.
