Created in 2015, then re-organized in 2023, the Community, Collaboration and Legislation Bureau (CCL) brings all of the office’s community related efforts under one umbrella with the goal of maximizing our reach, increasing communication, and making a positive impact across all the communities we serve. This bureau is responsible for the Community Outreach & Media Relations Unit (CMR) which is designed to create, expand, and facilitate a number of adult and youth education and prevention programs.
The unit underscores the importance of transparency and communication with the community through several different tools including, traditional news media, town hall meetings, community resource meetings, the office video newsletter, our office podcast: “Off the Record,” the neighborhood app “Nextdoor,” and other social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. CCL also includes the nationally recognized Community Prosecution Unit (CPU) comprised of several prosecutors working in neighborhoods throughout the County and City of Sacramento, Elk Grove, and Rancho Cordova. Community prosecutors create partnerships with citizens, law enforcement, community groups and businesses to proactively address quality of life issues including blight, prostitution, graffiti, and homelessness (see CPU brochure).
The CCL bureau is responsible for overseeing legislation and policy reform related to public safety. Staffed by prosecuting attorneys and legislative advocates, the unit researches, monitors, and analyzes proposed bills that affect the criminal justice system. It plays a critical role in shaping laws by advocating for reforms that enhance public safety and promote justice. Through its efforts, the unit helps ensure that policies reflect both community needs and sound legal principles.
