Angel’s Story:

On March 14, 2022, 16-year-old Angel’s life was tragically altered.  Galt Police were dispatched to the intersection of Ayers Lane and Trellis Lane in Galt.  Upon arrival, they found Angel, lying in a pool of blood in the roadway, actively bleeding from her head.  Around her, officers located shards of a broken car headlight.  Angel was rushed to the hospital and taken into surgery with a brain bleed.  She was placed on life support in a medically induced coma with brain swelling and severe brain trauma.  She cannot communicate and must be in a wheelchair or in bed.  Angel can breathe on her own, but needs to be fed with a tube in her stomach.

Through their investigation, detectives identified defendant Devin Calderon as the culprit.  Calderon drove with a 0.22% blood-alcohol-content when she drove her Dodge Ram truck into Angel as she was walking her dog.  The truck had a high lift kit, large off-road tires, and a diesel engine.  Calderon then fled the scene.  She later returned while officers were investigating and collided into a marked patrol vehicle.  Through their investigation, detectives further learned Calderon and her husband began drinking earlier in the day, after Calderon attended an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.
