Chief of Departmental Administrative Services

Carry out a diverse array of management and administrative tasks that entail overseeing the administrative functions of a highly intricate department. This includes managing the department’s budget and financial matters, engaging in management initiatives, delivering comprehensive administrative support services, and supervising a team of staff members in roles such as administrative services officer, administrative analyst, accounting, technical, and clerical positions through subordinate staff.

Senior Personnel Analyst

The Senior Personnel Analyst is a high-level position responsible for various human resources tasks with minimal oversight. They guide and train other Personnel Analysts and tackle complex assignments requiring in-depth analysis and collaboration. Operating under general supervision, they may also oversee lower-level staff directly or indirectly.

Personnel Analyst

A Personnel Analyst manages recruitment, classification, compensation, salary management, employee relations, and HR initiatives. This role is more complex than that of an entry-level Personnel Technician, requiring a strong understanding of HR principles, independent judgment, and the ability to guide junior staff.

Senior Personnel Specialist

The Senior Personnel Specialist is the highest role in the Personnel Specialist series, overseeing training, task assignment, and work review of junior staff while managing complex personnel functions. Unlike Supervising Personnel Specialists, who focus on performance evaluations and disciplinary actions, Senior Personnel Specialists prioritize mentorship and complex tasks.

Personnel Technician

The Personnel Technician is a paraprofessional role that supports human resources or administrative teams with specialized tasks under supervision. It serves as a transitional position for those moving from technical or clerical roles to professional human resources, aiding skill development for future roles like Personnel Analyst. Opportunities are available in central HR agencies and various departments.

Personnel Specialist Level I/II

The Personnel Specialist series is distinct from other clerical roles due to its complex tasks, with over 50% of time spent on the County’s personnel and payroll system. Personnel Specialist (Level II) is the journey level, requiring a solid understanding of personnel rules, payroll, insurance, and candidate certification, along with significant prior experience, distinguishing it from the entry-level Personnel Specialist (Level I).

Senior Accounting Manager

This class represents the top management role in the Accountant series, overseeing complex accounting or auditing operations with significant autonomy. Individuals supervise a large team of professional accountants, administrative personnel, and technical staff, both directly and through subordinate supervisors.

Accounting Technician

The Accounting Technician role involves technical and supervisory responsibilities, requiring independent judgment to analyze financial and statistical information across various processes and accounts. This position also includes overseeing Account Clerks and other clerical staff.

Administrative Services Officer III

Performs a wide variety of administrative support staff duties involving budgets, policies, procedures, organization, planning, contracts, facilities, systems, equipment, supplies, personnel and special projects.

Administrative Services Officer II

This administrative series provides diverse support services across departments, with responsibilities varying by position. Tasks may include analytical, budgetary, and fiscal duties, depending on the role. Incumbents generally do not perform direct departmental functions but must understand these areas to effectively offer administrative support.

Administrative Services Officer I

Performs a wide variety of administrative support staff duties involving budgets, policies, procedures, organization, planning, contracts, facilities, systems, equipment, supplies, personnel and special projects.

Senior Administrative Analyst

Manages the County budget and financial issues, conducts analytical studies on departmental structures and processes, and collaborates on major projects with government and private organizations.

Associate Administrative Analyst Level I/II

Manages the County budget and financial issues, conducts analytical studies on departmental structures and processes, and collaborates on major projects with government and private organizations.

Senior Office Assistant

This series of classes provides clerical and operational support, emphasizing customer service, document preparation, filing, and record keeping. The Senior Office Assistant role is a lead position that may involve overseeing a team while performing similar tasks. Unlike the Senior Office Specialist, it does not require specialized knowledge.

Office Assistant I/II

This series of classes provides clerical and operational support, emphasizing customer service, document preparation, filing, and record keeping. The Office Assistant role has two salary tiers: Office Assistant (Level II) for experienced individuals and Office Assistant (Level I) for entry-level candidates.

Office Specialist Level I/II

This series of classes differs from the Office Assistant series as it involves specialized technical clerical tasks, while Office Assistants primarily handle routine document management. The classes provide diverse technical clerical support across various County departments, with work varying significantly by program or assignment.

Paralegal

Under the direction and supervision of a licensed attorney, performs legal tasks assisting the attorney in preparing legal documents, and other legal services. 

Legal Secretary II

Performs a wide variety of specialized legal clerical and general clerical work which includes composing and typing legal documents and correspondence, processing of legal documents, and maintenance of legal case records; and may require the use of shorthand. Also characterized by responsibility for a wide variety of complex legal clerical work requiring independent judgment and discretion, and is subject to minimal work direction and instruction. The range of duties typically involves performing work in multiple, unrelated areas of law and for several attorneys, and/or other staff.

Legal Secretary I

Performs a wide variety of specialized legal clerical and general clerical work which includes composing and typing legal documents and correspondence, processing of legal documents, and maintenance of legal case records; and may require the use of shorthand.

Student Intern

Under close supervision, incumbents in this class assist with a wide variety of tasks and activities, as required by the departmental assignment; and perform related duties as assigned.
