Chief Criminal Investigator
The Chief Criminal Investigator oversees the Criminal Investigator series, focusing on evidence collection, interviews, witness location, crime scene examination, and report compilation. The District Attorney’s Office investigates crimes for prosecution and suspect apprehension. The Department of Human Assistance specifically targets fraudulent public assistance claims, forgery, embezzlement, childcare fraud, duplicate aid, fugitives, and identity theft to ensure program integrity.
Supervising Criminal Investigator
In a leadership role, oversees personnel conducting technical and investigative tasks for criminal and civil cases. Investigators gather evidence, interview witnesses, examine crime scenes, and compile reports. The District Attorney’s Office prosecutes criminal offenses and apprehends suspects. The Supervising Criminal Investigator manages a unit focused on criminal investigations and coordinates with other units and agencies.
Criminal Investigator Level I-II
Under general supervision, this role involves conducting technical and investigative tasks for criminal and civil cases. Investigators collect evidence, interview individuals, locate witnesses, examine crime scenes, and compile detailed reports. Their work primarily supports the prosecution of criminal offenses and the apprehension of suspects.
Investigative Assistant
Under general supervision, incumbents assist in and perform technical and investigative work associated with criminal cases and civil matters. Investigations by the District Attorney’s Office focus upon gathering evidence, and interviewing and locating witnesses for use in the prosecution.
Investigative Intern
Through a mutual agreement with CSU-Sacramento, currently enrolled full-time students majoring in Criminal Justice may be considered for volunteer Investigative Internships. Investigative Interns assist investigative staff by obtaining information and documentation requested by Deputy District Attorneys for ongoing criminal prosecutions. We have limited positions available per semester. Internship work hours can vary depending on school schedules.
