Director, District Attorney’s Laboratory of Forensic Services

The Director of the District Attorney’s Laboratory of Forensic Services manages and coordinates the lab’s activities, distinguishing the role from that of a Supervising Criminalist by its comprehensive responsibility for strategic planning, organization, and leadership.

Supervising Criminalist

The Supervising Criminalist manages Criminalists, Forensic Laboratory Technicians, and non-technical staff at the District Attorney’s Laboratory of Forensic Services. This leadership role involves overseeing daily operations, assigning tasks, evaluating performance, and may include case analysis.

Criminalist – Level I-IV

Criminalists perform forensic analyses of physical evidence, investigate crime scenes, and serve as expert witnesses in court. Their duties vary from basic tasks to complex casework requiring advanced knowledge and extensive experience in forensic science.

Forensic Laboratory Technician

Forensic Laboratory Technicians conduct forensic examinations, investigate crime scenes, manage evidence custody, and provide expert court testimony. Classified as technical, they work under supervision, performing routine lab tests and handling evidence. This role differs from a Criminalist by focusing on standard testing for fewer cases, requiring more oversight, and necessitating review of test results by a Criminalist or Supervising Criminalist.
