CASE: Bobby Richard (Case # 24FE014574)

PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Amanda Sanchez, Adult Sexual Assault Prosecution Unit

On February 6, 2026, the Honorable Deborah Lobre sentenced Bobby Richard to 30 years to life in prison.  On September 15, 2025, a jury convicted Bobby Richard of forcible rape.  The Court found true 10 prior strike convictions for robbery and the aggravating factors of the victim being particularly vulnerable and the crime using planning, sophistication, and professionalism.  The Court additionally found 30 years of additional priors true but struck the punishment for those priors.

The victim has a cognitive disability. Richard met the victim online a couple years prior to the night of the rape. On September 14, 2023, they agreed to meet in person for the first time at a restaurant. Once at the restaurant, Richard immediately suggested they go to his home.  At his home, Richard forcibly raped the victim and caused her to be in fear.  He continued the assault even though the victim said “no” 20-30 times.  Richard then prevented her from leaving his home and continued to threaten and scare her. The victim was eventually allowed to leave. The next day she reported the assault to law enforcement. Richard denied having sexual intercourse with the victim, but DNA evidence tied him to the rape.
