On October 30, 2025, Hamdi Bazyan was convicted by a jury of two counts of attempted murder, animal cruelty, false imprisonment, false imprisonment of an elder person and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. The jury also found true allegations of causing great bodily injury and personal use of a knife.
On December 26, 2021, Hamdi Bazyan was acting erratically, causing his family to call the police. Bazyan left the home before officers arrived, but he later returned after the police had left. Bazyan continued his strange behavior. He retrieved three large knives, forced his parents inside their bedroom and beat them with his fists and a cane. He then stabbed the family cat nine times and attempted to suffocate her. Bazyan returned his attention to his parents and stabbed his mother in the torso. When his father intervened, Bazyan stabbed his father multiple times. His mother was able to escape to a neighbor’s home to call police. When Bazyan heard sirens, he fled the house but was ultimately taken into custody at the American River bridge shoreline. Life-saving aid was performed on the two victims, and they survived their wounds.
Bazyan faces a maximum sentence of 28 years and 4 months in prison. Sentencing is set for January 23, 2026, at 9:00 .m. before the Honorable Allison Williams.
