CASE: Nicholas Mangelli (Case #19FE014148)

On June 6, 2025, the Honorable Laurel White sentenced Nicholas Mangelli to two consecutive life in prison without the possibility of parole terms.  On April 29, 2025, a jury convicted Mangelli of two counts of first-degree murder with the special circumstance of having a previous first-degree murder conviction found true on both counts. Mangelli was also convicted of assault by a prisoner charges and custodial possession of a weapon.

Mangelli was incarcerated in California State Prison, Sacramento. On May 30, 2019, Mangelli approached the victim from behind with an inmate manufactured weapon and stabbed the victim in the head and torso.  Mangelli continued to stab the victim approximately 15-20 times.  The victim was immediately taken for medical treatment but was pronounced deceased approximately 15 minutes after the attack. While incarcerated on July 23, 2022, Mangelli began stabbing a second victim in the back with inmate manufactured weapons.  The victim fell to the ground and Mangelli continued to stab the victim approximately 15-20 times.  The victim was transported to the medical facility and pronounced deceased approximately 30 minutes after the attack.
