On May 21, 2026, Joel Zeigler was convicted by a jury of second-degree murder, attempted murder and three counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm.
On April 17, 2022, Joel Zeigler was at the Goeman’s Bar on Franklin Boulevard when he saw the intended victim. Zeigler believed that victim had been involved in a prior shooting of his brother. Zeigler fired seven shots at that victim, hitting him as well as three other bystanders. One of the bystanders was struck in the back and killed.
An allegation that Zeigler has a prior strike conviction for robbery and carjacking will be determined at the sentencing hearing.
Zeigler faces a maximum sentence of 123 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for July 24, 2026, at 1:30 PM in Department 16A before the Honorable Steve White.
