PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Samuel Alexander, Homicide Unit
Jonathan Flemming was convicted by a jury of first-degree murder.
On September 22, 2019, Flemming went to an apartment he previously shared with a roommate, Daniel Santamaria. Flemming threatened Mr. Santamaria, causing him to call 911 for help. Within five minutes of that 911 call, Mr. Santamaria stumbled into his neighbor’s apartment suffering from 13 stab wounds to his chest, neck and back. Flemming fled the scene. Mr. Santamaria was able to identify his attacker to responding police officers. October 6, 2019, Mr. Santamaria succumbed to his wounds.
An allegation that Flemming has a prior strike conviction for carjacking will be determined at the sentencing hearing.
Flemming faces a maximum sentence of 51 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for February 2, 2024, in Department 12 before the Honorable Maryanne Gilliard.
