Defendant Convicted of Shooting Murder at Party

Sean Hardy was convicted by a jury of second-degree murder with the allegation that he personally discharged a firearm causing death found true. Hardy was also convicted of felon in possession of a firearm.

The victim, Chancelor Colbert, was a football player at Sierra College. In July 2019, the victim went to a party that was posted on social media and grew larger than expected. When a fight broke out at the party, Hardy shot two times in the air with his gun and everyone ran out of the house to leave. The victim got to the car and realized one of his friends was missing. The victim went back to look for his friend and encountered another fight that broke out on the street.  When the victim tried to break up the fight, Hardy took a swing at him and missed. Hardy then pulled out his gun and shot at the victim four times as the victim tried to run away. The victim was hit once in the back and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Hardy faces a maximum sentence of 43 years to life in prison.  Sentencing is set for June 7, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. in Department 40 before the Honorable Steve White.
