Matthew Holverstott was convicted by a jury of the second-degree murder of James Holverstott and elder abuse.

The victim was Matthew Holverstott’s father. Matthew Holverstott threatened to kill his father over a real estate deal. The next day, Matthew Holverstott met his father in the parking lot of a church.  He then called 911 claiming his father slipped and fell.  The father was rushed to the hospital and died the same day. Matthew Holverstott immediately tried to obtain his father’s pension and estate assets valued at approximately $800,000-$900,000.  An autopsy determined the father suffered six separate blunt force injuries to the head and 14 separate blunt force injuries to his body.

Holverstott faces a maximum sentence of 16 years to life in prison.  Sentencing is set for August 31, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. in Department 42 before the Honorable Allen Sumner.
