Defendant Sentenced for Committing a Series of Robberies

The Honorable Stacy Boulware Eurie sentenced Cortney Thurman to 19 years in prison. On April 14, 2022, a jury convicted Thurman of five counts of robbery and one count of attempted robbery. The jury also found true aggravating factors. The judge found true that Thurman has a 2014 strike conviction for robbery.

On December 24, 2020, Thurman robbed a US Bank branch in downtown Sacramento. On December 28, 2020, he attempted to rob a US Bank branch inside of a Safeway. On December 29, 2020, Thurman robbed a Rite Aid store. On December 30, 2020, he robbed another US Bank branch on Florin Road. In the last robbery, Thurman forced his way into the secured area of the bank and forcefully took more than $33,000 from three different bank employees. A tracking device was in one of the stacks of money allowing law enforcement to apprehend Thurman within one hour after the robbery.
