PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Jesse Saucedo, Targeting Armed Recidivist Gangsters Enforcement Team (TARGET)
Fred Gordon was sentenced by the Honorable Ernest Sawtelle to 12 years and 4 months in prison. On June 8, 2021, a jury convicted Gordon of negligent discharge of a firearm, discharge of a firearm from a motor vehicle and felon in possession of a firearm. An allegation that Gordon has a prior 2017 strike conviction for robbery was also found true.
On May 10, 2019, law enforcement conducted a routine parole search of Gordon. The search revealed a video on Gordon’s phone showing Gordon brandishing a firearm inside a vehicle. Another video showed Gordon’s arm extended outside the vehicle with his hand obscured from view. A single gunshot is heard on the video. Law enforcement conducted a forensic analysis of Gordon’s phone and compared it to gunshot activations around the time of the recording of the video using ShotSpotter. ShotSpotter returned with an activation in a residential area. Gordon denied firing the firearm and insisted he was fired upon by a rival gang member. The firearm was recovered and registered to one of Gordon’s friend.
