Gang Member Sentenced for First-Degree Murder in South Sacramento
DATE: June 14, 2021
CASE: Lakquan Solomon (Case #19FE003568)
PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Kristen Andersen, Gangs & Hate Crimes Unit
The Honorable Steve White sentenced Lakquan Solomon to 85 years to life in prison. On April 29, 2021, a jury convicted Solomon of the first-degree murder of Brandon Campbell and shooting from a motor vehicle. Allegations of personal and intentional discharge of a firearm causing death, vicarious arming and a gang enhancement were found true on both counts. Solomon was also convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm. An allegation that Solomon suffered a prior 2011 strike conviction for robbery was found true at sentencing.
On September 28, 2017 at 3:00 a.m., Solomon and another unidentified male drove into south Sacramento. The victim, Brandon Campbell, was waiting outside of his friend’s house when Solomon drove by him. After the victim spoke briefly with Solomon and the other male occupant, Solomon drove off down the road before flipping a U-turn and coming back to where the victim was standing. Solomon then shot the victim one time in the shoulder at close range with a 12-gauge shotgun. At the time of the murder, Solomon was validated as an Oak Park Blood gang member.
