CASE: Jamaal Gooding (Case #15F07708)

PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Jesse Saucedo, Targeting Armed Recidivist Gangsters Enforcement Team (TARGET)

On November 20, 2020, the Honorable Patrick Marlette sentenced Jamaal Gooding to 32 years to life in prison.  On June 14, 2019, a jury convicted Gooding of premeditated and deliberate attempted murder and assault with a firearm.  The jury also found that Gooding used a firearm causing great bodily injury.

On October 31, 2015, Jamaal Gooding and the victim got into a verbal argument outside of a fast food restaurant.  Gooding pulled out a gun and shot the victim three times and fled the scene.  The victim was struck in the thigh and chest and suffered a punctured lung. Surveillance video led law enforcement to identify Gooding as the shooter.  A search of Gooding’s residence revealed a firearm that matched the description given by witnesses at the scene. A forensic analysis of Gooding’s phone revealed text messages and searches related to the shooting.
