Defendant Convicted of First-Degree Murder, Attempted Voluntary Manslaughter

Akeim McFadden was convicted by a jury of the first-degree murder of George Nixon. McFadden was also convicted of attempted voluntary manslaughter and two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm.  The jury found true use of firearm and use of a firearm causing death allegations.  The Court also found that McFadden has a 2016 prior strike conviction for spousal battery and personally inflicting great bodily injury.

On June 24, 2019, Akeim McFadden shot the victim in the stomach at point blank range over a bicycle in Rancho Cordova.  Paramedics transported the victim to UC Davis Medical Center, where he survived his injury.  On November 19, 2019, McFadden shot and killed George Nixon while Mr. Nixon was asleep in a tent in the backyard of a Rancho Cordova residence.  The District Attorney’s Crime Lab matched casings found at the crime scene to casings found at the June 24^th crime scene.

McFadden faces a maximum sentence of 98 years and 8 months to life in prison.  Sentencing is set for December 11, 2020, at 9:30 a.m. in Department 10 before the Honorable Ernest Sawtelle.
