CASE:  Antonio Reyna (Case #16FE012775)

PROSECUTOR:  Principal Criminal Attorney Anthony Ortiz, Homicide Unit

The Honorable Maryanne Gilliard sentenced Antonio Reyna to life in prison without the possibility of parole.  On March 29, 2019, a jury convicted Reyna of the first-degree murder of Rafael Cervantes.  The jury also found true the special circumstance that the murder occurred during the commission of a robbery.

The victim was a member of the Mexican Cartel and was cooking and selling pounds of methamphetamine throughout the United States.  The cooking and shipping primarily occurred in Sacramento.  One of the victim’s workers conspired with Antonio Reyna to rob the victim of his methamphetamine and money.  On June 18, 2016, Reyna and two accomplices stormed the house dressed in tactical gear with guns and tasers.  As they ordered the residents to the ground, they opened fire on the victim.  The victim sustained three gunshot wounds and ultimately died.
