Defendant Convicted of Multiple Child Sexual Assault Charges

DATE:  August 30, 2019

CASE:  Thomas Frederick Leonard (Case #17FE020029)

PROSECUTOR:  Deputy District Attorney Patrick Foster, Special Assault & Child Abuse Unit

Thomas Frederick Leonard was convicted by a jury of 11 counts of committing lewd acts upon a child and sex act with a child under 10 years of age.

The 6-year-old victim lived in an apartment with her mother, her mother’s boyfriend and Thomas Frederick Leonard. In September 2016, the victim told her mother that Leonard touched her and made her watch illegal videos. The victim’s mother took her to the UC Davis medical emergency room, where the victim reported many instances of sexual assault. Leonard stated to law enforcement that the victim had been sexually assaulting him for months, and that he thought he could discipline her himself and make her stop. Leonard was later found to have searched for child pornography on his computer.

Leonard faces a maximum sentence of 37 years to life in prison.  Sentencing is set for October 4, 2019, in Department 21 before the Honorable Steve White.
