DA Anne Marie Schubert Announces Consumer Protection Settlement with Raley’s

District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced today that the Honorable Christopher Krueger of the Sacramento Superior Court approved a stipulated judgment in a civil enforcement action filed against Raley’s. The complaint filed by the Sacramento County District Attorney in conjunction with the District Attorneys of Santa Clara, Shasta and Sonoma Counties alleged that Raley’s illegally sold over-the-counter medications and baby food and formula beyond the manufacturers’ sell by or expiration dates.

The case stemmed from an investigation conducted during the summer of 2017 by the four District Attorney’s Offices Consumer Protection Units after expired products were found on store shelves.  Raley’s has agreed to the imposition of an injunction requiring that they remove any of the covered products one week prior to the expiration date and pay a total of $350,000 in civil penalties, restitution, and costs of investigation.

Raley’s was cooperative and responsive when notified of the results of the investigation. Raley’s has implemented a robust stock checking program to identify and remove any products on store shelves nearing their expiration dates.
