DATE: January 9, 2019
CASE: Raphael Garcia (Case #15F06936)
PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Paris Coleman, Adult Sexual Assault Prosecution Unit
Raphael Garcia was convicted by a jury of kidnapping with intent to commit rape, two counts of sexual penetration, attempted rape, and lewd acts with a minor.
On October 26, 2015, Garcia dragged a female Cosumnes River College student into a men’s bathroom on campus and sexually assaulted her. The next day, Garcia touched and sexually propositioned a 15-year-old high school student near the same campus.
Los Rios police and Sacramento police detectives connected Garcia to these crimes through DNA evidence and a photograph taken by the quick-thinking 15-year-old victim, who took a photo of Garcia with her cell phone.
Garcia faces a maximum sentence of 27 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for February 4, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. in Department 9 before the Honorable Sharon Lueras.
