Prison Inmates Convicted of Murder, Assault

Rudy Delossantos and Michael Robles were convicted by a jury of murder and assault by a life prisoner for the killing of Humberto Torres.

Delossantos and Robles were inmates at California State Prison – Sacramento.  On July 7, 2016, the pair attacked fellow inmate Humberto Torres in the main exercise yard. Delossantos was armed with an inmate manufactured weapon and stabbed Torres in the chest and back. Robles punched and kicked Torres in the torso, face and head.  Responding correctional officers stopped the assault by deploying pepper spray grenades. Torres received immediate medical assistance, but he died from excessive blood loss suffered as a result of the multiple stab wounds.

In 2006, Delossantos was convicted of first-degree murder. In 2005, Robles was convicted of six counts of attempted murder.

Both defendants face a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.  Sentencing is set for October 5, 2018, in Department 24 before the Honorable Shelleyanne Chang.
