Defendant Sentenced for Felony Hit and Run, Insurance Fraud

DATE: February 5, 2018

CASE: Shane Sienes (Case #17FE009293 and #17FE012702)

PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Suzanne Salazar, Insurance Fraud Unit

On December 12, 2017, Shane Sienes pled no contest to felony hit and run with death or injury, felony insurance fraud and misdemeanor charges for “wet” reckless driving and insurance fraud.  On January 29, 2018, the Honorable Lawrence Brown sentenced Sienes to 250 days in county jail, 5 years formal probation and ordered him to pay $40,361.65 in victim restitution.

Sienes rear-ended two cars that were stopped at a red light.  He then fled the scene after briefly talking with a witness, who reported Sienes appeared under the influence.  Two victims suffered injuries from the impact.  Sienes later falsely reported to his insurance company that the vehicle he was driving had been stolen.  Further investigation revealed that approximately two months before, he made another false claim to his insurance company for damages to his vehicle in an attempt to receive payment for which he was not entitled.

This case was prosecuted by the District Attorney’s Insurance Fraud Unit.
