Gang Member Convicted for Series of Crimes

DATE:  September 6, 2017

CASE:  Bruce Reed (Case #15F03781)

PROSECUTOR:  Deputy District Attorney Laura West, Gangs & Hate Crimes Unit

Bruce Reed was convicted by a jury of discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner, residential burglary, and three counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm.  The jury also found true allegations that the assaults with a semi-automatic firearm were committed for the benefit of the Del Paso Heights Bloods criminal street gang, and that Reed discharged a firearm during the commission of those offenses.

During the early morning hours of May 10, 2015, Reed drove to the home of his ex-girlfriend and fired a gun in her residential neighborhood when no one would answer the door. On June 20, 2015, Reed committed a residential burglary, stealing an AR-15 rifle as well as personal property from the victim’s home.  On June 24, 2015, Reed drove into a rival gang neighborhood and shot at three victims.  None of the victims were hit, but the car they had been sitting in was struck six times by .45 caliber ammunition.

Reed faces a maximum sentence of 37 years and 8 months in state prison.  Sentencing is set for October 6, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. in Department 31 before the Honorable Michael Kenny.
