DA Anne Marie Schubert Announces 5th Annual Youth Academy

District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announces that student applications are now being accepted for the 5th Annual Youth Academy, a program in partnership with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, Sacramento Police Department, Sacramento County Probation Department, Sacramento County Public Defender’s Office, Rancho Cordova Police Department, Elk Grove Police Department and Galt Police Department.

Students will learn about the criminal justice system, hear from our criminal justice partners, and engage in open communication with law enforcement about issues that affect youth today. 

Topics include: anatomy of a criminal case, law enforcement and community relationships, use of force, gun violence, gangs, dating violence, human trafficking, marijuana and the law, crime scene investigation and evidence, and distracted driving.  A career fair will be held at graduation.

Classes will be held twice a month in the evenings from 6:00 p.m. -  8:00 p.m. at FOUR locations on different days of the week:

SOUTH AREA: Thursdays - September 26, 2019—April 2, 2020 ~ Sacramento County Sheriff’s Community Service Center (7000 65th Street, Sacramento 95823 ) 

NORTH AREA: Tuesdays - September 17, 2019 – March 10, 2020 ~ Trinity Life Center (5225 Hillsdale Blvd., Sacramento 95842) 

EAST AREA: Wednesdays – September 18, 2019—March 11, 2020  ~ Rancho Cordova City Hall (2729 Prospect Park Drive, Rancho Cordova 95670)  

ELK GROVE/GALT AREA: Mondays - September 23, 2019 – April 6, 2020  ~ Elk Grove City Council Chambers (8400 Laguna Palms Way, Elk Grove 95758)  

*An optional one day field trip is scheduled to tour the Sacramento Superior Court

The program is open to current Sacramento County high school students.  Eligible students can apply for either the South, North, East or Elk Grove/Galt area academy.  They must submit a completed application, signed permission slip and signed Code of Conduct agreement.  Space is limited and on a first come, first served basis.
