Ira Johnson was convicted by a jury for the second-degree murder of Rogelio Gastelum, and two counts of attempted murder. The jury also found true allegations that Johnson personally discharged a firearm causing death or great bodily injury.
On July 12, 2015, Ira Johnson and his friends attended a party in North Highlands. When asked to leave, the group started a fight. Johnson and another unidentified man pulled out guns and fired multiple shots into the crowd of partygoers, killing Rogelio Gastelum. Two other victims were shot, but survived their injuries.
Johnson faces a maximum sentence of 59 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for July 21, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. in Department 41 before the Honorable Helena Gweon.
