Defendants Convicted for Robbery Spree of 14 Businesses

Malcolm Brewer was convicted by a jury of 14 counts of robbery with 11 enhancements of being personally armed with a gun and two additional enhancements where another participant in the robbery was armed with a gun.  He was also convicted of being a felon in possession of a gun.  A separate jury convicted Glen Conway of three counts of robbery with two enhancements of being personally armed with a gun and an enhancement where another participant in the robbery was armed with a gun.  Conway was also convicted of being a felon in possession of a gun.

A third defendant, Shane Williams, pled no contest to seven counts of robbery and seven enhancements where another participant in the robberies was armed with a gun.

The three defendants and two other perpetrators went on a robbery spree from November 10, 2017 to December 13, 2017.  Over this time, they committed 14 separate robberies at fast food restaurants, gas stations, convenience stores and gaming stores.  There were 19 separate victims, including both employees and customers.  In most instances, the defendants wore masks, gloves and had a getaway driver waiting when they fled the scene.  The defendants were identified through clothing, vehicles, phone records and DNA.  

Allegations that Brewer and Conway each suffered a prior strike conviction for residential burglary under California three strikes law will be determined at the sentencing hearing. 

Brewer faces a maximum sentence of 79 years in prison.  Conway faces a maximum sentence of 33 years in prison.  Brewer and Conway will be sentenced on April 26, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. Williams faces a maximum sentence of 13 years and 4 months in prison.  His sentencing is set for April 12, 2019, at 9:00 a.m.  All three sentencing hearings will be held in Department 42 before the Honorable Allen Sumner.
