Defendant Convicted of Child Sexual Assault

CASE:  Jose Contreras (Case #16FE011439)

PROSECUTOR:  Deputy District Attorney TeriAnn Grimes, Special Assault & Child Abuse Unit

Jose Contreras was convicted by a jury of two counts of committing a sex act with a child under 10 years of age and two count of committing a lewd act upon a child.

On June 8, 2016, the victim’s parents left their 6-year-old daughter in the care of Contreras, who is a family member.  When the victim’s parents returned home, they found Contreras naked from the waist down in their daughter’s room.  The victim was crying and had thrown up and urinated on herself.  The victim’s father immediately called 911 to report the crime.  The victim later told the police how Contreras sexually assaulted her. 

Contreras faces a maximum sentence of 50 years to life in prison.  Sentencing is set for November 17, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. in Department 29 before the Honorable Timothy Frawley.
