District Attorney Youth Academy

The District Attorney Youth Academy is a program in partnership with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, Sacramento Police Department, Sacramento County Probation Department, Rancho Cordova Police Department, Elk Grove Police Department and Galt Police Department.

Students actively learn about the criminal justice system, hear from our criminal justice partners, and engage in open communication between law enforcement and themselves concerning issues that affect youth today. Students are also educated on such topics as gangs, social media, and distracted driving.

Topics include: 

  •  Race as a Factor in the Criminal Justice System
  •  Law Enforcement Use of Force
  •  Anatomy of a Criminal Case
  • Marijuana & the Law
  •  Laboratory of Forensic Science
  • Crime Scene Investigation (CSI)
  • Human Trafficking
  • Dating Violence & Stalking

Classes will be held twice a month in the evenings from 6:00 p.m. -  8:00 p.m. at FOUR locations:

The District Attorney’s 2017-2018 Youth Academy has reached capacity for the South and Elk Grove/Galt areas.  We do have room in the North or East area classes.

The dates and locations for these areas are as follows:

NORTH AREA - Tuesdays: September 19, 2017 through March 20, 2018 at the Roberts Family Development Center - 770 Darina Ave., Sacramento 95815  (In the vicinity of Del Paso Blvd. and El Camino Avenue)

EAST AREA - Wednesdays: September 27, 2017 through March 14, 2018 at the Rancho Cordova Police Department - 2897 Kilgore Road., Rancho Cordova CA 95670 (In the vicinity of Sunrise Blvd. and Kilgore Road)

*An optional one day field trip is scheduled to tour the Sacramento Superior Court

The program is open to current Sacramento County high school students.  Eligible students can apply for either the South, North, East or Elk Grove/Galt area academy.  They must submit a completed application, signed permission slip and signed Code of Conduct agreement.  Space is limited and on a first come, first served basis.
